I just watched What the Bleep do We Know? with Evan and Mark. It was pretty damn bad. It was about a thirty-five thousand year old black kid teaching a deaf woman how to play basketball while inquiring, "How far down the rabbit hole do you want to go?" This has something to do with understanding the meaning of life, which is EVERYBODY IS GOD, apparently. For a film that over and over again claims that we live in beautiful and wonderous universe, it spent a surprising amount of it's running time displaying people at thier cartoonish worst. The climax of this actually included a colorful cast of cartoon "cells", each supposedly represnting aspects of human personality but really mirroring the seven deadly sins. When the "Lust Cell" suggestively slithered down the inside of a man's pant leg and beckoned a woman onto the dance floor, I laughed. Maybe I'm wierd, but it seemed less like a statement about the crippling "addiction to emotion" that the movie claimed was at the heart of all human suffering, and more like the product of one of Taylorson's fevered dreams.
I rewatched a couple of movies that are actually good yesterday. Spirited Away and Slingblade are two movies that I cannot forsee myself ever getting tired of. I'm always surprised by the quality of the English dub on Spirited away. I've been conditioned by Godzilla movies to expect laughably poor dubs on anything from Japan. It's amazing how many of the actors in most of the Godzilla movies from the nineties clearly and consistantly say "Godziller".

That new hotshot writer has his eye on your column space, Ginseng. He's on obits. now and you know we are friends, but I've been toying with letting him write a Monday column. The office in St. Louis has been pressuring me to give him a chance and it's only my eternal, undying respect for your pen that keeps me from giving you the boot. Remember that time you got hate mail from the Anglican Church? Nonetheless, if his column gets more positive reponse than yours, you better get used to paying in food stamps.

About that
It's a joke. One of the people interviewed in the movie mispronounced the word during what was intended to be his grand statement about human existence. Kind of deflated it if you ask me.August 18 2005, 22:24:10 UTC 6 years ago
Re: About that
A newspaper is no place for your crude humour. To the stockade with you, boy! In my day news was boring, just like our lives, and we liked it that way, by gum! I don't understand you kids nowadays with your 23-hour cable news broadcasts through the teleovision waves and your September 11ths and your pop-singers-molesting-little-boys. Things were so much simpler and more wholesome back in the day when a black man could get lynched for wearing shoes too good for him.August 22 2005, 04:59:24 UTC 6 years ago

*Palpatine voice*I sense great hate and anger in you, boy. Your turn to the Dark Side is almost complete.
